August 9th, while sailing
from Oponohu Bay to Haapiti, both on Moorea, we caught the most extraordinary
fish, a 30 lb mahi mahi. As you can see, it put up quite a fight. The fish was
almost as long as Axel. Gary reeled it in, then handed the pole to Tom and then
Gary gaffed it perfectly, right in the eye, so it didn't damage any meat. The
fish was yellow-green, but right after Gary killed it, it turned brilliant
blue. A few moments later it turned back to yellow-green, then 2 minutes later
it was brilliant blue again. Now we have so much fish, we are trying to think
of creative ways of preparing it for dinner.
We love the blog! Such a great adventure for the family to experience together.
ReplyDeleteceviche! South Pacific style! What a beautiful fish. Thanks for sharing it with us stuck back here at home ! We miss you guys.
ReplyDeleteThat is one big Dorado! They are such good eating. We caught a couple in Mexico, but nothing like the size of that guy. It's such a beautiful fish too. Steve cooked the one that he caught, but Mark and I had some sashimi in Cabo that was sensational. I know about having so much fish you have to keep finding different ways to prepare it and eat it. But that is a problem that is great to have! Good eating.
ReplyDeletePut this comment on the July 30 page but it would not go. Just kept erasing. So I am putting it here but it was meant for July 30. ...Yes, Happy Birthday Gary. Looks like a great time was had by all. Love your headdress, Gigi, it is absolutely stunning. This last photo is wonderful. Axel looks all done in. Beautiful family. Sending love and fair winds!
